New to IELTS? Begin right here. In a few minutes you'll know exactly what the test measures, how it is scored, how this app is organised — and where you stand today.
IELTS Academic has four skills. Listening, Reading and Writing are taken back-to-back on the same day; Speaking may be on the same day or a few days apart.
| Skill | Format | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Listening | 4 sections, 40 questions — recordings played once only | ~30 min |
| Reading | 3 passages, 40 questions, 11 official task types | 60 min |
| Writing | Task 1 (describe visual data, 150+ words) + Task 2 (essay, 250+ words) | 60 min (20 + 40) |
| Speaking | 3 parts — interview, long turn, discussion | 11–14 min |
Every skill is scored on the same 0–9 band scale in half-band steps (5.5, 6.0, 6.5…). Your Overall Band is the average of your four skill bands, rounded. Listening and Reading come from a fixed raw-score conversion; Writing and Speaking are judged by trained examiners — which is exactly why technique and practice matter most there.
Every lesson here comes from CILL's IELTS classroom book. Each skill is numbered simply from its own Chapter 1, and every lesson also shows its book chapter — so the app and the book always line up. The lessons are grouped into three blocks:
This orientation is the shared Chapter 1 for the whole app. Each skill then starts fresh at its own Chapter 1 — Listening 1–4, Reading 1–5, Writing 1–8, Speaking 1–3 — and every lesson also shows the matching book chapter (e.g. Listening 1 = Book 15), so nothing is ever missing.

Each skill follows the book exactly — same lessons, same order — and every lesson shows its book chapter, so the app and your book always match.
Beyond the book, the app gives you real practice with instant results — the part that actually builds your band.
IELTS loves to say the same thing in different words. This tool trains you to notice it — every single time.
No random dictionary lists. Every word is explained the way IELTS actually uses it, in the right register.
Saved words turn into a short quiz — you pick the sentence with the same meaning. Real exam practice, not memorising.
IELTS often rewrites a whole sentence, not a single word. We train you to catch that shift too.
