Orientation & Diagnostic

New to IELTS? Begin right here. In a few minutes you'll know exactly what the test measures, how it is scored, how this app is organised — and where you stand today.

🎯
By the end of this short chapter you will know the structure, timing and scoring of all four IELTS Academic skills, understand how the lessons here are organised, and have a clear starting point to measure your progress against.

1 What the test actually measures

IELTS Academic has four skills. Listening, Reading and Writing are taken back-to-back on the same day; Speaking may be on the same day or a few days apart.

SkillFormatTiming
Listening4 sections, 40 questions — recordings played once only~30 min
Reading3 passages, 40 questions, 11 official task types60 min
WritingTask 1 (describe visual data, 150+ words) + Task 2 (essay, 250+ words)60 min (20 + 40)
Speaking3 parts — interview, long turn, discussion11–14 min
💡 One thing the table doesn't show — look at the Writing row: the two tasks are not weighted equally. Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1 toward your Writing band, which is exactly why it gets more time (40 min vs 20) and more practice here.

2 How your score is calculated

Every skill is scored on the same 0–9 band scale in half-band steps (5.5, 6.0, 6.5…). Your Overall Band is the average of your four skill bands, rounded. Listening and Reading come from a fixed raw-score conversion; Writing and Speaking are judged by trained examiners — which is exactly why technique and practice matter most there.

Worked example: Listening 6.5 + Reading 6.0 + Writing 5.5 + Speaking 6.5 = 24.5 ÷ 4 = 6.125 → Overall 6.0.
Notice that your weakest skill pulls the average down as much as your strongest pulls it up — there is no hiding a weak skill behind a strong one.

3 How this app is organised

Every lesson here comes from CILL's IELTS classroom book. Each skill is numbered simply from its own Chapter 1, and every lesson also shows its book chapter — so the app and the book always line up. The lessons are grouped into three blocks:

Block A
Reading & Writing foundations
Block B
Applied practice + Listening & Speaking
Block C
Full mock tests & personal review

This orientation is the shared Chapter 1 for the whole app. Each skill then starts fresh at its own Chapter 1Listening 1–4, Reading 1–5, Writing 1–8, Speaking 1–3 — and every lesson also shows the matching book chapter (e.g. Listening 1 = Book 15), so nothing is ever missing.

Where to start

Practise by skill

Pick a skill and begin. Every lesson is taken straight from CILL's own IELTS classroom book — nothing invented, nothing copied.

How this app works

Your classroom book — now interactive

Everything here mirrors CILL's IELTS book, chapter for chapter — then adds what a book never could: real audio, auto-scored tests and an instant band.

📚 A milestone for IELTS in BangladeshThe complete CILL IELTS book — mirrored, chapter for chapter, into this app.
1 Book & app, in sync

Every lesson from the book

Each skill follows the book exactly — same lessons, same order — and every lesson shows its book chapter, so the app and your book always match.

  • Every trick from the book, ready to practise
  • A short Bangla explanation with every trick
  • The book chapter shown on every lesson (e.g. Listening 1 = Book 15)
2 What the app adds

Things a book can't do

Beyond the book, the app gives you real practice with instant results — the part that actually builds your band.

  • Real recorded audio for Listening & Speaking
  • Auto-scored mock & section tests — a band estimate in minutes
  • Every answer explained in English & বাংলা, plus the Paraphrase Trainer
Something new

Spot the same idea, said differently

IELTS loves to say the same thing in different words. This tool trains you to notice it — every single time.

Reading passage
The city introduced a new recycling policy despite strong opposition from local businesses, who argued the added cost would undermine their competitiveness.
undermine
weaken damage work against → how a question might reword it
1

Written for this exact passage

No random dictionary lists. Every word is explained the way IELTS actually uses it, in the right register.

2

Practise right after you save

Saved words turn into a short quiz — you pick the sentence with the same meaning. Real exam practice, not memorising.

3

Not just one word — the whole sentence

IELTS often rewrites a whole sentence, not a single word. We train you to catch that shift too.
