≈ 185 words. Notice the structure: an introduction that paraphrases the prompt, a one-sentence overview of the biggest trends, then detail with figures and comparisons. There is no personal opinion in Task 1.

Introduction

The line graph illustrates how much electricity was produced from three renewable sources — hydro, wind and solar power — in Country X over a twenty-year period from 2000 to 2020, measured in terawatt-hours (TWh).

Overview

Overall, while hydroelectricity remained the largest and most stable source for much of the period, both wind and solar power grew dramatically, and by 2020 wind had become the leading source, with solar close behind.

Detail & comparison

In 2000, hydro power dominated at around 30 TWh, far ahead of wind at 5 TWh and solar at a negligible 1 TWh. Hydro then rose only gently, reaching 36 TWh by the end of the period.

Wind power, by contrast, climbed steadily throughout, overtaking hydro at around 2016 and finishing highest of all at approximately 58 TWh. Solar showed the most striking change: after a decade of very slow growth, it accelerated sharply after 2010, rising from 8 TWh to 45 TWh and moving ahead of hydro in the final years.

Band 8.0

The line graph shows how much electricity was produced from three renewable sources — hydro, wind and solar power — in Country X between 2000 and 2020, measured in terawatt-hours (TWh).

Overall, hydroelectricity was the leading source for most of the period but increased only marginally, while wind and solar grew dramatically and had both overtaken it by 2020.

In 2000, hydro power was by far the largest source at about 30 TWh, compared with only 5 TWh for wind and 1 TWh for solar. It then rose slowly and steadily, ending at approximately 36 TWh. Wind power, on the other hand, increased consistently across the whole period, passing hydro around 2016 and peaking at about 58 TWh. Solar power changed the most: it stayed very low until 2010 and then climbed steeply from 8 TWh to 45 TWh, overtaking hydro near the end.

Why Band 8: a clear overview, accurate figures and strong comparison. It falls just short of 9 because a few phrasings are slightly less precise and varied than a top answer.
Band 7.0

The line graph illustrates the amount of electricity generated from three renewable sources — hydro, wind and solar power — in Country X over a 20-year period from 2000 to 2020, in terawatt-hours.

Overall, although hydroelectricity was the dominant source at the beginning, it grew only slightly, whereas wind and solar rose sharply and both overtook it by 2020.

In 2000, hydro power stood at approximately 30 TWh, far above wind at 5 TWh and solar at just 1 TWh. Over the following two decades, hydro climbed gradually to around 36 TWh. In contrast, wind power increased steadily and overtook hydro at about 2016, before reaching a peak of roughly 58 TWh. Solar remained low until 2010, after which it grew rapidly from 8 TWh to 45 TWh, surpassing hydro in the final years.

Why Band 7: a clear overview and accurate data with good comparison words (whereas, in contrast). A couple of small slips and slightly less range keep it below 8.
Band 6.0

The line graph shows the electricity that was generated from three renewable sources — hydro, wind and solar — in Country X between 2000 and 2020, measured in TWh.

Overall, hydro was the biggest source at the start but wind and solar increased a lot and by the end wind was the highest.

In 2000, hydro power produced about 30 TWh, which was much more than wind (5 TWh) and solar (only 1 TWh). During the next 20 years hydro increased slowly and reached around 36 TWh. Wind power increased more quickly and passed hydro in about 2016, finishing at 58 TWh. Solar was very low until 2010 and then it rose fast to 45 TWh in 2020. Both wind and solar became bigger than hydro at the end.

Why Band 6: there is an overview and the data is mostly correct, but the word increased is repeated and the language is simple. Clearer comparison and more varied vocabulary would push it to 7.overview
Band 5.5

The graph is about electricity from renewable in Country X from 2000 to 2020. There are three source, hydro, wind and solar.

In 2000 the hydro is high, about 30 and the wind is 5 and solar is very small only 1. After that all of them is going up but hydro go up slowly and stay around 35. The wind go up more fast and in 2020 it become 58 which is the highest. Solar in the beginning is very low but later it grow fast and reach 45 in 2020. So we can see the wind and solar increase a lot but hydro not so much.

Why Band 5.5: the data is covered, but there is no separate overview, the phrase go up repeats, and there are grammar errors (three source, all of them is, it grow). Adding an overview sentence and fixing verb forms are the fastest way up.

≈ 290 words. This is a two-part question (reasons + effects), so each body paragraph answers one part directly. Notice the paraphrased introduction, topic sentences, specific development, and a conclusion that summarises without adding new ideas.

Introduction

In many parts of the world, couples are postponing parenthood until their thirties or even forties. This essay will examine the main reasons behind this trend and consider the consequences it has for society.

Body 1 — reasons

There are several explanations for why people now start families later. The most significant is the expansion of education and career opportunities, particularly for women. Many people spend their twenties completing degrees and establishing themselves professionally, and they are reluctant to interrupt this progress by having children. A second factor is financial: raising a child is expensive, and with the high cost of housing in particular, many couples wait until they feel economically secure before making such a commitment. Advances in medical technology, which allow people to conceive safely at a later age, have also made delay a more realistic option.

Body 2 — effects

This shift has a number of important effects. On a personal level, older parents are often more financially stable and emotionally prepared, which can benefit their children. At a national level, however, the consequences are more concerning. As people have children later, they tend to have fewer of them, and this contributes to falling birth rates and an ageing population. Over time, a shrinking working-age population must support a growing number of retired citizens, placing strain on pensions and healthcare systems.

Conclusion

In conclusion, later parenthood is driven mainly by educational, financial and medical factors. While it can bring advantages for individual families, it also poses a serious long-term challenge for societies in the form of demographic imbalance.

Band 8.0

In numerous countries around the world, it has become increasingly common for people to postpone having children until later in life. This essay will consider the principal reasons for this tendency and examine the effects it has on society.

Several factors explain why parenthood is being delayed. The most significant is the expansion of education and professional opportunities, especially for women, who now often wish to complete their studies and establish their careers before starting a family. A further reason is economic: the high cost of raising children, combined with expensive housing, leads many couples to wait until they feel financially secure.

This development produces a range of effects. At the individual level, older parents tend to be more financially stable and emotionally mature, which can benefit their children. At the societal level, however, the consequences are more troubling. Because people who delay parenthood usually have fewer children, birth rates fall and populations age. Consequently, a smaller working-age population must support an expanding group of retired people, straining pension and healthcare systems.

In conclusion, the trend towards later parenthood is driven primarily by educational and financial considerations. Although it offers certain advantages to individual families, it also creates a considerable long-term problem for societies in the form of demographic imbalance.

Why Band 8: both parts fully developed, wide vocabulary and accurate complex sentences. It is just short of 9 because a few phrases are a little less natural and precise than a top answer.
Band 7.0

In many parts of the world, couples are increasingly choosing to delay having children until later in life. This essay will examine the key reasons behind this development and analyse its consequences for society.

There are several reasons for this trend. The most important is the growth of education and career opportunities, particularly for women. Many people now spend their twenties studying and building a career, and they prefer to become financially and professionally established before starting a family. In addition, the rising cost of living, especially housing, means that many couples simply cannot afford children until they are older.

This shift has a number of significant effects. The most noticeable is a decline in the birth rate, because people who start families later tend to have fewer children. As a result, many countries are experiencing an ageing population, in which a shrinking workforce has to support a growing number of elderly citizens. This puts pressure on pensions and healthcare. However, there are also benefits, as older parents are usually more financially stable.

In conclusion, later parenthood is mainly caused by educational and financial factors. While it can be positive for individual families, it presents a serious long-term challenge for society in the form of an ageing population.

Why Band 7: both parts are answered and well organised, with a good range of language and only minor errors. Slightly deeper development and more precise wording would reach 8.
Band 6.0

These days, it is common for people in many countries to start their families at a later age. This essay will discuss the main reasons for this trend and the effects it has on society.

There are two main reasons why people are having children later. The first reason is education and career. Nowadays, many young people, especially women, want to complete their education and build their career before having a baby. This takes many years, so they delay having children. The second reason is financial, because raising a child is very expensive, so many couples wait until they can afford a house.

This trend also has important effects. One major effect is that the birth rate is falling. When people have children later, they usually have fewer children, so the population starts to get older. This means there will be more old people and fewer young workers in the future, which can create economic problems. On the other hand, older parents are often more mature, which is good for their children.

In conclusion, people are having children later mainly because of education and money. Although there are some benefits, the ageing population is a serious problem for society.

Why Band 6: a clear structure and both parts covered, but the ideas are basic, the linking is mechanical (the first reason, the second reason) and vocabulary is simple. More varied language and development would lift it to 7.
Band 5.5

Nowadays many people decide to have children when they are older. In this essay I will talk about the reasons and the effects for the society.

There are some reasons why people have children later. First reason is education. Many people specially women want to finish their study and get a good job first, so they don't have time for children when they are young. Second reason is money. Children need a lot of money for food, school and house, so people wait until they have enough money.

There are also some effects. One effect is that the population is getting older because people have less children. This can be a problem because there is not enough young people to work. Another effect is that older parents can take care of children better because they have money and experience.

In conclusion, people have children later because of education and money, and this cause a older population which is not good for the country.

Why Band 5.5: both parts are addressed, but the ideas are underdeveloped and repetitive, and there are frequent errors (less children, this cause, a older). Developing each idea further and fixing basic grammar are the quickest gains.
