≈ 180 words. A process diagram needs the passive voice (are collected, is melted) and clear sequencing words (first, then, once, after that, finally). The overview says how many stages there are and where the process starts and ends. There are no numbers to report.

Introduction

The diagram illustrates the process by which used glass bottles are collected and recycled into new bottles.

Overview

Overall, the process consists of six main stages, beginning with the collection of used bottles from homes and ending with new bottles being filled and sold; it is a continuous cycle rather than a one-way process.

Detail — in sequence

At the first stage, used glass bottles are collected from households, usually in special recycling bins. They are then transported to a recycling centre, where they are sorted according to their colour and thoroughly washed to remove labels and dirt.

Once they have been cleaned, the bottles are crushed into small fragments known as 'cullet'. This cullet is subsequently melted in a furnace at a very high temperature and moulded into the shape of new bottles. In the final stage, the new bottles are filled and sold in shops, after which they can be used and re-enter the same process.

Band 8.0

The diagram shows how used glass bottles are recycled and turned into new bottles.

Overall, there are six stages in the process, which starts when old bottles are collected from homes and ends when new bottles are sold in shops. The process is a cycle, because the new bottles can be recycled again.

To begin with, used glass bottles are collected from people's houses and taken to a recycling centre. There, they are sorted by their colour and washed to remove any dirt. After this, the clean bottles are crushed into small pieces called 'cullet'. The cullet is then melted at a high temperature and moulded into new bottles. Finally, these new bottles are filled and sold in shops, and once they have been used they can enter the process again.

Why Band 8: a clear overview, every stage in order, and good use of the passive and sequencers. A few phrasings are slightly less varied than a top answer.
Band 7.0

The diagram illustrates the process of recycling used glass bottles to make new ones.

Overall, the process has six main stages and it is a cycle, beginning with the collection of used bottles and ending with new bottles being sold.

First, used glass bottles are collected from homes and transported to a recycling centre. At the centre, the bottles are sorted according to their colour and washed. Next, they are crushed into small pieces which are called cullet. This cullet is then melted at a very high temperature and shaped into new bottles. In the last stage, the new bottles are filled and sold in shops, and after being used they can be recycled again.

Why Band 7: a clear overview, all stages covered in order, and the passive is used well. Slightly less range and a couple of small slips keep it below 8.
Band 6.0

The diagram shows the process of how used glass bottles are recycled into new bottles. There are six stages in total.

First, the used glass bottles are collected from the homes. After that they are taken to a recycling centre. In the centre, the bottles are sorted by colour and they are washed. Then the bottles are crushed into small pieces called cullet. After that the cullet is melted and it is made into new bottles. Finally the new bottles are filled and sold in the shops. Then they can be used again.

Why Band 6: all the stages are covered in order and the passive is mostly used, but the linking is repetitive (after that … after that) and there is no real overview sentence. Adding an overview and varying the linkers would push it to 7.
Band 5.5

This diagram is about how the glass bottle is recycle. There is six step in this process.

First the people collect the old bottles from the home. Then they bring it to the recycling centre. In there the worker sort the bottle by colour and wash them. After they crush the bottles and make small piece call cullet. Then they melt the cullet and make new bottle. In the last the new bottle is fill and sell in the shop. So the glass bottle can use again and again.

Why Band 5.5: the stages are covered, but the passive voice is mostly missing (the people collect, they crush) and there are grammar errors (is recycle, six step, small piece). Using the passive and fixing verb forms are the fastest way up.

Model answer — Task 2 Band 9

≈ 275 words. In a discuss both views essay you must explain each view fairly and also give your own opinion. Notice the introduction that previews both sides and states the writer's position, one paragraph per view, and a conclusion that confirms the opinion.

Introduction — both views + position

Opinions differ as to the ideal age for children to begin formal schooling. While some argue that starting very young is beneficial, others believe children should remain at home until they are older. This essay will consider both positions before explaining why I favour a later start.

Body 1 — the early-start view

Those in favour of an early start point to the advantages of beginning education as soon as possible. Young children's brains are highly receptive, and supporters argue that exposing them to reading, numbers and social interaction at three or four gives them a head start that lasts throughout their schooling. In addition, early schooling provides reliable childcare for parents who work.

Body 2 — the later-start view + my opinion

On the other hand, many educationalists believe that young children learn best through play and should not be placed in a formal classroom too soon. In countries such as Finland, where children start school at seven, pupils consistently achieve excellent results, which suggests that a later start does no harm. I share this view: before the age of six or seven, a child benefits more from developing socially and emotionally through play than from sitting at a desk.

Conclusion

In conclusion, although there are clear benefits to beginning school early, particularly for working families, I believe the evidence favours a later start, as young children gain more from play-based learning than from formal instruction.

The same essay written at each band

Watch the climb: both views explained fairly, a clear opinion of your own, ideas developed, a four-paragraph shape, precise vocabulary and few errors. Band 8.0

People hold different views about the best age for children to start school. While some believe an early start is best, others think children should wait until they are around seven. This essay will look at both sides before giving my own opinion.

On one hand, supporters of an early start believe that young children learn very quickly. Starting school at three or four introduces them to reading, numbers and other children at a time when their minds absorb information easily, and it also helps working parents who need childcare.

On the other hand, many people argue that small children should learn through play rather than in a formal classroom. In Finland, for example, children begin school at seven and still perform very well, which shows that starting later is not a disadvantage. Personally, I agree with this view, because I think play helps young children develop socially and emotionally.

In conclusion, while an early start has some benefits, especially for families, I believe children should not begin formal school too young, as they gain more from play at that age.

Why Band 8: both views are explained clearly and the opinion is given, with good vocabulary and accuracy. A slightly wider range and more precise phrasing would reach 9.
Band 7.0

There are different opinions about when children should start school. Some people think they should start when they are very young, while others believe they should start later. In this essay I will discuss both views and give my opinion.

On one hand, some people believe that starting early is good. When children go to school at three or four years old, they learn to read and count early and they also learn how to make friends. Another advantage is that parents who work can leave their children at school.

On the other hand, other people think that young children should not go to school too early. They believe that children learn better through playing. For example, in some countries children start school at seven and they still get very good results. I agree with this opinion because I think play is very important for small children.

In conclusion, both views have some good points, but in my opinion children should start school a little later because playing helps them to grow.

Why Band 7: both views and a clear opinion, well organised with an example; the language is good but a little simple and repetitive in places.
Band 6.0

Nowadays people have different opinions about the age that children should start school. Some think it is better to start early and some think it is better to start later. I will discuss both views and give my opinion.

Some people think children should start school early. The reason is that young children can learn very fast. If they start at three or four, they can learn reading and writing early. Also it is helpful for the parents because they can go to work.

Other people think children should start later, for example at seven. They think small children need to play and they should not sit in the class for a long time. In my opinion I think this view is better because playing is good for children.

In conclusion, both views are important but I think children should start school later because they need time to play and grow.

Why Band 6: both views and an opinion are there, but the ideas are basic and the linking is simple (some people … other people). More development and varied language would lift it to 7.
Band 5.5

Some people think the children should go to school in early age but other people think they should start when they are seven. I will discuss the two view and give my opinion.

The people who like early school think it is good because the child can learn many thing when they are small. They learn the alphabet and number and also they make friend. And the parent can do their job.

But other people think it is not good to start early. They say the small child need to play and not sit in the class. In some country the children start at seven and they are good in study. I think this is also correct.

In conclusion, both view have good point but in my opinion the children can start little later because the play is important for them.

Why Band 5.5: both views are mentioned, but the ideas are simple and there are frequent errors (the two view, many thing, make friend), and the opinion is not very clear. Developing each side and fixing basic grammar are the quickest gains.দুই দিক আছে, তবে ভাবনা সরল ও ভুল বেশি (the two view, many thing) এবং opinion স্পষ্ট নয়।
