IntroductionThe two maps show how the village of Elmwood changed between 1990 and the present day.
OverviewOverall, the village became far more developed over the period, as areas of farmland and trees were replaced by housing and public facilities, although the original houses in the north-east were left untouched.
Detail — the changesThe most striking change took place in the north-west, where the large area of farmland was cleared and replaced by several blocks of apartments. In the south-west, the trees that once stood beside the road were removed to make way for a new school.
There were changes to the south of the road as well: the open field in the south-east was built on and turned into a row of shops. In addition, the main road running through the village was widened, and a footbridge was constructed over the river at the bottom of the map. Only the houses in the north-east remained exactly as they had been in 1990.

What are the main causes of traffic congestion, and what measures could be taken to reduce it? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.

IntroductionTraffic congestion has become one of the most serious problems facing large cities around the world. This essay will examine the principal causes of this congestion and suggest several measures that could help to reduce it.
Body 1 — causesThere are two main reasons why city roads have become so congested. The first is the sharp growth in the number of private cars. As incomes rise, more families can afford their own vehicle, and many people prefer the comfort of driving to using crowded public transport. The second cause is poor urban planning: in many cities, road networks were designed decades ago for far fewer vehicles, and public transport is often unreliable, which pushes even more commuters onto the roads.
Body 2 — measuresFortunately, a number of measures can ease the problem. The most effective is to invest heavily in public transport, building efficient metro and bus systems that make leaving the car at home an attractive choice. Governments can also discourage unnecessary car use through congestion charges, as London has done, or by building cycle lanes. In the longer term, better planning — such as locating workplaces closer to housing — can reduce the need to travel at all.
ConclusionIn conclusion, traffic congestion is caused mainly by rising car ownership and inadequate planning. However, with sustained investment in public transport and sensible policies to limit car use, cities can make their roads considerably less congested.

In many large cities, traffic congestion has become a very serious issue. This essay will discuss the main causes of the problem and suggest some possible solutions.
There are two main causes of traffic congestion. Firstly, the number of private cars has increased enormously, because more people can now afford to buy a car and prefer driving to taking the bus or train. Secondly, the roads and public transport in many cities are not good enough, as they were built for a much smaller population, so they cannot cope with the traffic.
However, there are several measures that can reduce congestion. The best solution is to improve public transport by building modern metro and bus systems, so that people do not need to use their cars. In addition, the government can introduce a congestion charge in the city centre, as they did in London, and build more cycle lanes to encourage cycling.
In conclusion, traffic congestion is mainly caused by the rising number of cars and weak public transport, but it can be reduced through better transport systems and policies that discourage car use.
Nowadays, traffic congestion is a big problem in many cities. In this essay I will explain the main causes of this problem and suggest some solutions.
There are two important causes. The first cause is that there are too many cars on the road. As people earn more money, they buy their own cars because it is more comfortable than public transport. The second cause is that many cities do not have good public transport, so people have no choice but to drive.
There are also some solutions to this problem. The most important solution is to make public transport better, for example by building an underground train system. If public transport is fast and cheap, people will use it instead of their cars. The government can also make drivers pay a fee to enter the city centre, which will reduce the number of cars.
In conclusion, traffic congestion is caused by too many cars and poor public transport, but it can be solved by improving public transport and controlling the use of cars.
These days, traffic congestion is a serious problem in many big cities. This essay will discuss the causes and the solutions of this problem.
There are some causes of traffic congestion. The first cause is that there are too many cars. Nowadays many people have money so they buy a car and they use it every day. The second cause is that the roads are small and the public transport is not good, so there is a lot of traffic.
There are also some solutions. The first solution is to improve the public transport like buses and trains. If the public transport is good, people will not use their car. Another solution is that the government can make a rule to reduce the cars in the city, for example a tax.
In conclusion, traffic congestion is caused by too many cars and small roads, and it can be solved by better public transport and government rules.
Nowadays the traffic jam is a big problem in the big city. In this essay I will talk about the cause and the solution.
There are many cause of traffic jam. First, there are too much car in the road. The people have money now so everybody want to buy a car. Second, the road is small and the bus and train is not enough for the people.
For the solution, the government should make the public transport more good. If the bus and train is good, the people will use it and not the car. Also the government can make a law that not allow too many car in the city centre.
In conclusion, the traffic jam is happen because of too many car and small road, and the solution is the better public transport and the law.
